Many Hands Board members were delighted to join College Bound for “IMAGINE, the 29th Annual End of the Year Celebration,” via Zoom on May 21. The event celebrated College Bound’s Class of 2020 with tributes from Mayor Muriel Bowser and Arena Stage Artistic Director Molly Smith; musical performances by College Bound students; advice from program alumni; and the announcement of College Bound’s 2020 awards and scholarships.
College Bound Board member Tracey Hughes presented Many Hands with the 2020 Community Leadership Award in recognition of Many Hands’ impact on the community. Past recipients of the Community Leadership Award include First Lady Michelle Obama, DC Attorney General Karl Racine, and Angela Alsobrooks, county executive of Prince George’s County.
College Bound seeks to make college a reality by preparing students to matriculate and graduate from college. College Bound serves more than 200 students from over 50 public schools in the DC area through its Academic Mentoring Program and over 150 alumni in college through the Virtual Mentoring Program, which helps ensure degree completion. The Virtual Mentoring Program was launched with support from Many Hands, which awarded College Bound the Many Hands $100,000 Impact Grant in 2012.
